Social Organization Ch. 7 & 8

This chapter really focused on community and how to involve them in different aspects of the business such as how to get them involved and to participate. They suggest doing this by determining what participants want and value so that it is meaningful to them and they will actually want to contribute for their own benefit. It's a sad truth but nowadays we live in a "what do i get out of this" mindset that keeps people to themselves and doesn't really allow group collaborations. The main idea is to find these meaningful aspects and then define the core participants actions needed to help them realize that meaning. I enjoyed the example the authors used from the Acosta firm and how they decided to change their in-store buying experience for the customers. Becoming more social media based allows customers to personalize their choices and feel more informed from the business on what choices they offer.

  1. I couldnt agree with you more when you say people have a " what do i get out of this" mindset. Now-a-days no one really wants to get involed in something unless it will benifit them in some way. This keeps a lot of group callaboration from happening.

  2. I also agree that people today carry this mindset. It is sad and we need to develop a sense of community and understanding. Social media is a great example on how customers and businesses interact and utilize customer opinion so they can be satisfied.

  3. I agree as well that people have such a mindset, however, I do not find this as a bad thing. People have actions based on their incentives and capitalizing on things that will have a greater benefit than the cost, which brings society closer to efficiency. It has always been this way, it is just that people used to feel a sense of benefit from giving input to others, nowadays, not so much.
