Social Media Based Organization

Tappsi is an organization that decided to solve the problem of finding a taxi by using 21st century technology, creating a smartphone app that uses GPS to find where exactly the customer is and can then send the closest open taxi to pick them up. This service solves different problems such as language barriers between a customer and the taxi driver along with the fear of getting in a random taxi in a foreign country. The main challenge Tappsi is now facing is expansion into other countries, as they are currently only operating in Colombia. I believe this app could be really successful in the U.S., especially in some of the more crowded cities where taxis are a popular choice. This organization compares to the ones mentioned in Chapter one of The Social Organization in the sense that Tappsi is also trying to solve issues using social media while providing a service for customers. The main problem they need to overcome is growing their business outside of just Colombia and being able to expand into other countries.

  1. This is a interesting new technology I do a lot of traveling and being in a new place it is difficult to figure out the best place to find or to get a hold of a taxi. The language barrier has not be a problem for me yet because I rarely get out of the country, but that is a cool feature and it will be interesting to see how this app develops.

  2. It would probably benefit them if they tried to begin their expansion in a big city like San Francisco, Chicago, or New York
